“I was impressed by the virtuousity of the kaval player. I was equally impressed that he didn't sacrifice passionate playing for the sake of his virtuosity. I was also blown away by the assymetical meter and [to my ear] unusual harmonies. What a fantastic concert!” Jamie Dahman, Chicago, Oct 20, 2011

"Theodosii Spassov played in St. Louis tonight ... As in Chicago, Spassov played solo - no band or backup of any kind. I understand this is often the way he performs, although I am aware of his ensemble. This is avant-garde jazz with some Bulgarian motifs thrown in. he also sings, both words and in a sort of scat. At a one point he did an extended set of variations on Pusta Mladost, in which he sang, then did riffs on the kaval, then sang while playing accompaniment on the kaval (I have never heard this done before when the humming was more than a drone effect), then he played while blowing across the finger holes of the kaval to produce the tone.
He ended playing at such lightening speed it seemed humanly impossible..."John Uhlemann, St. Louis, Oct 29, 2011
